Nearly three years ago this week (wow has it been that long?), I discovered a very dedicated Ninja Turtles fan who wanted to created a custom TMNT mod for his favorite PC video game Freedom Force Vs. the Third Reich.  His goal was to base missions off the key events in the first season of the classic Ninja Turtles cartoon show.  Eventually, his work so inspired my imagination that I volunteered to draw up some loading screens and cutscenes for his game mod.  The first mission of his game started right after April O'Neil was kidnapped by the Foot Clan for the first time and the TMNT emerge from the "Ninja Pizza" parlor to find and rescue her.  My artistic challenge was to summarize the events leading up to this turning point via artistic representations of the early events in the "Turtle Tracks" episode.

Here's what I've been able to come up with!

1. April O'Neil reports on a baffling series of ninja-styled thefts of scientific-technology labs:

2. The sinister Shredder commands his street punks to silence the meddling reporter:

3.  April makes a daring escape from the street thugs by slipping into the sewers:

4.  Ninja Turtles to the Rescue!

5.  April meets Master Splinter

6.  Night in the Ninja District

7. Foot Clan Vs. April: Revised!

And if you own a copy of Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich, make sure you download my bud's TMNT mod and give it a try; it's still a Work-In-Progress right now, but it's still lots of fun!

It's been a long time since I've uploaded anything new and even long since I wrote a journal entry!

I don't know if :iconmajorgeneralwhiskers: will be planning a sequel to his failed coup to HAZ DEVIANTART of April 1st 2012, but I do hope to at least have a more complex entry ready just in case.

Thanks to everyone who views my gallery and checks for updates.  I've got more TMNT pieces drawn but I just haven't decided to post them yet!

On the last day of February, I just felt like drawing a portrait of Master Splinter fighting for his life against some of the things that would probably unnerve his otherwise stoic demeanor.  That "Splinter's Worst Nightmare" piece came together nicely and left me hungry to expand on the concept.  When the talented PowderAKACaseyJones graciously volunteered to bring it to life with digital color, I was already off and running on story/panel layouts for a comic.  I've never had the discipline or skill to attempt a full length fan comic before, but I am well on my way to finishing a 12-13 page story that should arrive just in time for Halloween!  I've learned some basic digital coloring skills recently, so I am also coloring it myself.  This comic won't feature much text, but it will advance the story through careful layouts and artistic poses that suggest energy and motion.

To pique your interest, here are some strategically cropped panels from the Work-In-Progress!

Pencils are probably 75%-80% complete, Coloring is around 60% done.

I've been working on this "off and on" since March. and I decided that I wouldn't release it until every page was finished. I know how hard it is as a watcher to have to wait on each page over period of months.

The actual title of the comic won't be "Splinter's Nightmare," since that is the name of the original piece.  I've kicked around some ideas for an appropriate title that will be revealed along with the rest of the comic.

Thanks for watching and see you in October!

In case you are revisiting my Gallery and notice some of the pieces don't quite look the same as you remember, you should know that your memory is not playing tricks on you!  I plan on revisiting some the stuff I colored when I was learning the process.  On my TMNT art, I like to try and capture the style of the source material as well as possible, so I'm constantly fooling around getting the color palette accurate.  I won't upload new material that might confuse people into thinking it might be something they've already seen before.  Rather, I'll just replace the old files with new ones in the pre-existing entries.  I will, however, upload the originals to my Scraps folder for the sake of historical preservation and for comparison if anybody is interested in my progress and how I might improve in the future.

The first coloring update is my Turtles Forever homage, "Save April!":
